Fresh Air & Sunshine

Who's ready for spring? As the temperatures begin to rise and the flowers bloom, it's a great time to get outside. Fresh air is essential to our health and supports our most important organs, including our brains. Did you know fresh air can boost learning abilities and improve concentration? When paired with sunshine, our bodies begin to heal from infection and illness. Sunlight destroys harmful bacteria and stimulates healing. With spring right around the corner, we thought it was important to share the importance of this dynamic duo and a few of our favorite outdoor activites. Each of these activities includes plenty of fresh air and sunshine!

Gardening

Studies show gardening can help keep you happy and healthy from head to toe—no green thumb required. Research even shows it can reduce stress, fight heart disease, and even boost your memory. Growing your own fruits and vegetables is also an inexpensive way to ensure you're eating enough fresh produce. Ready to start your own garden? Take a Walk

One of the most powerful ways to lose weight, stay healthy, and live longer is shockingly simple...walking. We recommend a daily walk in your neighborhood, favorite park, or along the Carrollton GreenBelt. The American Diabetes Association says walking lowers your blood sugar levels and your overall risk for diabetes. Putting one foot in front of the other can also help reduce your risk for disease and promote longevity. Walking outdoors is one of the simplest ways to improve your health.

Enjoy a Picnic

Plan an enjoyable picnic with your partner or friends. Not only is it a great way to get outside and enjoy the outdoors, but it's also a great way to safely socialize with friends. We recommend packing some of your favorite dishes in a portable basket and grabbing your favorite quilt or folding lounge chairs for seating. You may consider meeting at a park or even in your own backyard. Picnics are a fun way to change up your Saturday afternoons and get some much-needed fresh air. Looking for recipes?
